Newcastle’s Transfer Ambitions: Will Thiaw Make the Move?

Newcastle United aims to enhance their summer transfer activity, reportedly set to raise their offer for AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw as they seek to solidify their squad. This comes amid a challenging transfer window for the Magpies, who have faced setbacks in acquiring several key targets such as Benjamin Sesko, James Trafford, and Matheus Cunha, among others.

So far, Newcastle has secured only two notable signings, bringing in Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale from Nottingham Forest and Southampton, respectively. Additionally, the club is grappling with the potential loss of star striker Alexander Isak, who has expressed no interest in extending his contract through 2028, drawing attention from Liverpool.

To address the potential departure of Isak, Newcastle is actively searching for replacements, with Thiaw emerging as a significant target. German journalist Florian Plettenberg indicated that Newcastle has reached a verbal agreement with Thiaw on a contract until 2029, while negotiations with AC Milan continue. Initial offers have faced rejection, with the latest reported bid standing at €30 million, while Milan reportedly seeks €35 million for the defender.

Furthermore, Newcastle’s ambition extends beyond Thiaw, as Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio noted that they are determined to improve their offer today. The successful signing of the former Schalke 04 player could depend heavily on his willingness to move to the Premier League.

In addition to Thiaw, Newcastle has shown interest in Barcelona’s Ferran Torres, with attempts to secure the forward also meeting resistance from the Spanish giants, as both Newcastle and Tottenham recently had substantial offers rejected.

Newcastle’s determination reflects an ambitious outlook as they aim for a successful season, despite the recent challenges in their transfer endeavors. Fans are hopeful that the recruitment strategy will bear fruit, strengthening the team’s competitiveness for the upcoming season.
