As families across the nation embrace the new year with hopeful resolutions, Reverend Ronald Ram of the Grace Samaritan Church calls for an increased emphasis on caring for the elderly and fortifying family ties. He believes that the start of a new year offers a valuable opportunity for reflection on family responsibilities.

Reverend Ram pointed out that many elderly individuals, widows, and other vulnerable members of society often find themselves isolated, despite the presence of family and community. He urged that the new year should focus on nurturing relationships within families, stating, “The new year must begin at home with stronger relationships between parents, children, and grandparents.”

Prioritizing the wellbeing of the elderly not only fosters resilient families but also helps cultivate safer, more united communities, according to Ram. He advises that “faith, family, and compassion should guide New Year resolutions,” encouraging loved ones to reconnect, share quality time, and ensure that no one within their circle feels neglected.

The church, which has been rooted in the Korociriciri settlement for 12 years, serves over 400 families and has experienced significant growth, expanding from a modest base of 10 members to more than 100 through outreach efforts aimed at helping those facing various social and personal struggles.

Looking towards 2026, Reverend Ram expressed ambitious plans to extend the church’s outreach beyond Korociriciri, targeting five additional communities, with a special focus on assisting widows, single mothers, and those grappling with addiction or social isolation. He aims to support at least 50 more vulnerable individuals while inspiring families to take an active role in their care.

In essence, “strong families create strong communities, and strong communities build a strong nation,” reflects Reverend Ram’s vision for a more compassionate society. His commitment to enriching family bonds and supporting the elderly highlights the crucial role that unity and care play in collective progress.
