McKinney National Airport has significantly elevated its international stature with the introduction of a new U.S. Customs facility. This development is tailored to address the increasing demand for corporate jet travel, largely from major corporations such as Toyota Motor North America and Texas Instruments Inc.
The newly inaugurated U.S. Customs and Border Protection center, located on Industrial Boulevard, encompasses 3,200 square feet and is equipped with private inspection areas and secure-entry amenities. This addition is intended to streamline passenger processing and improve efficiency for international flights, thereby reducing turnaround times. The facility has been operational since early summer and was officially announced on September 22.
This $6 million project is not just about the Customs facility but also includes the development of the aircraft apron and essential supporting infrastructure. Funded by city-issued debt, the project is designed to be financially self-sustaining, with the debt to be repaid through the operating revenue generated by the airport.
The necessity for this expansion comes on the heels of a significant uptick in international flights at McKinney National Airport. In the last two years alone, international arrivals have skyrocketed by over 40%. The airport recorded 127 international arrivals in fiscal year 2023 and is expected to reach 180 by the close of fiscal year 2025. This trend underscores the strategic importance of McKinney National as a burgeoning hub for international corporate air travel.
As the airport continues to enhance its infrastructure and capabilities, McKinney National Airport is positioning itself as a key player in supporting corporate travel, contributing to the economic vitality of the region.
