A new tractor has officially been delivered to the Bitovani Cooperative in Nasaucoko Village, marking an important advancement in youth empowerment and rural development, while also addressing pressing local challenges, particularly those related to drug issues in Navosa. This initiative was highlighted by Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Inosi Kuridrani, who reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming rural communities via sustainable agricultural practices.
During the handover ceremony, Kuridrani asserted the importance of empowering youth not just through promises but by equipping them with tangible resources to create a better future. He acknowledged the persistent problems of drug cultivation and abuse in Navosa, stressing the need to change these narratives through fostering local agricultural initiatives.
The Bitovani Cooperative has been utilizing idle land for productive farming, and the introduction of the new tractor is anticipated to greatly enhance their operations. With this new equipment, the cooperative aims to improve food production and generate increased job opportunities for young people in the region.
Cooperative President Jone Limaiwale expressed his appreciation for the government’s support, noting that the tractor could serve as a transformative asset in their mission to provide youth with positive agricultural alternatives. This initiative not only offers essential resources but also instills hope and optimism for agricultural development within the region.
Similar agricultural efforts have been observed in various parts of Fiji, including the Koroisau Cooperative in Nadi, which recently received a new tractor under the Farm Mechanization Program. This program promotes cooperative participation and encourages financial investments from its members, reflecting a growing trend of collaboration aimed at enhancing agriculture across the nation.
By prioritizing mechanization and extending critical support to cooperatives, the Fijian government is reinforcing its commitment to rural agricultural sustainability, nurturing community resilience, and fostering a brighter future for youth. Such initiatives not only strive to elevate agricultural productivity but also contribute to the community’s overall well-being, helping to diminish reliance on negative influences.
