The Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, has announced significant progress in establishing drug recovery centres for adolescent boys and girls. After months of meticulous preparation, residential care facilities are now ready to be implemented.
A government property located in Domain has been designated as the location for the centre. In her statement, Ms. Kiran expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, under the leadership of Atonio Lalabalavu, for their valuable support and guidance as this important initiative advances.
“This project has involved extensive planning and collaboration, and I would like to thank the Honourable Minister for Health and Medical Services, Hon Atonio Lalabalavu, and his team for their continuous support as we develop drug recovery centres in partnership with Empower Pacific,” Ms. Kiran remarked.
After several months of dedicated effort, she confirmed that the residential care facilities are now ready to serve adolescents in need. Furthermore, she shared that a day-care recovery facility is set to become fully operational later this month, following a year of planning, construction, and capacity-building work.
The newly established centres aim to provide structured recovery and rehabilitation support for young individuals struggling with substance abuse. This initiative is part of the Government’s broader efforts to mitigate drug-related harm among youth, highlighting a commitment to improving the lives of adolescents facing such challenges. The development of these centres signals a hopeful step towards healthier futures for young people in the community.
