HBO Max has released a new version of the classic horror film “Salem’s Lot,” which tells the story of Ben Mears, a man who returns to a small town in Maine that is haunted by evil vampires. This remake premiered on Thursday, October 3, and carries an R rating due to its graphic violence and language.
The plot centers around Ben Mears, a writer who comes back to his hometown to pen a book about the Marsten House, a location rumored to be haunted. However, upon his return, he finds that the mansion’s owner is a vampire who is transforming the local residents into an undead army.
The new adaptation was primarily filmed in Massachusetts, which enhances its authentic New England atmosphere. Key filming locations included Boston, where principal photography began in September 2021, as well as Ipswich, Sterling, Clinton, Princeton—where the local library served as a filming site for three days—and a residence on Crescent Street in Stow.
“Salem’s Lot,” originally penned by Stephen King in 1975, was his second novel after the well-known “Carrie.”
The original 1979 version of “Salem’s Lot” is available for rent on Prime Video and Apple TV, and can also be streamed with a subscription on HBO Max.
