Yerin Ha has been cast as the love interest for Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson, in the upcoming fourth season of Shonda Rhimes’ hit Netflix series, Bridgerton.
According to sources, Ha will take on the role of Sophie Beckett, who engages in a slow-burning romance with Benedict, inspired by Julia Quinn’s novel “An Offer From a Gentleman,” which serves as the foundation for the new season.
Netflix describes the upcoming season as centering around the bohemian second son, Benedict. Unlike his happily married brothers, he is reluctant to settle down until he encounters a fascinating character known as the Lady in Silver at a masquerade ball hosted by his mother.
Sophie, who is introduced as the Lady in Silver, is the daughter of an earl but has been raised under difficult circumstances, with her stepmother and stepsisters treating her poorly, as her father never acknowledged her as part of the family.
Although Benedict’s quest for love is primarily explored in the third book of the series, the show rearranged its narrative order, opting to adapt the fourth book, “Romancing Mister Bridgerton,” in Season 3. That season focused on the romance between Colin Bridgerton, portrayed by Luke Newton, and Penelope Featherington, played by Nicola Coughlan.
The anticipation for Sophie’s casting grew even before Netflix confirmed in July that the fourth season would center on her relationship with Benedict.
The end of Season 3 hinted at Benedict’s romantic storyline, with Eloise, played by Claudia Jessie, scheduling her return to the masquerade ball, sparking speculations about where Sophie and Benedict will first meet.
Ha is widely recognized for her role in the live-action adaptation of Halo, where she portrayed Kwan Ha for two seasons. She is also set to appear in the upcoming Max prequel series “Dune: Prophecy,” launching in November, alongside her previous work in various Australian productions and an independent horror film titled “Sissy.”
