The Ba Women’s Forum has reached an important milestone with its official recognition from the Fiji Higher Education Commission (FHEC). This significant achievement was announced by forum president Dr. Maria Dotton, following a visit from FHEC representatives to the training center in Ba last Friday.
Dr. Dotton expressed her excitement regarding this recognition, highlighting that it opens pathways for graduates to earn a national qualification, which will enhance their job prospects and entrepreneurial ventures. Since its inception, the forum has successfully trained over 1,400 women, and this acknowledgment positions the center as a vital resource for developing job opportunities in the region.
Courses provided by the Ba Women’s Forum consist of 400 training hours, demonstrating a strong commitment to comprehensive skill development. Dr. Dotton also pointed out the importance of helping women transition to formal qualifications that align with the standards set by the Higher Education Commission.
Furthermore, the Women, Children, and Social Protection Ministry’s grant to support trainers’ allowances underscores the forum’s dedication to empowering women through education. This funding initiative enhances the quality of training and mentorship provided to participants.
This recognition coincides with Fiji’s broader initiatives to improve access to quality education, evidenced by the recent inauguration of the Higher Education Commission’s office in Labasa and ongoing efforts to increase women’s roles in education and the economy.
Collectively, these initiatives reflect a positive trend towards fostering a more skilled workforce capable of driving innovation and economic growth in Fiji. The ongoing commitment to education and women’s empowerment is likely to inspire future generations and contribute significantly to sustainable development within the country.
