A Pap test is a straightforward procedure that plays a crucial role in preventing cervical cancer. The Canadian Cancer Society recommends that sexually active individuals with a cervix begin regular Pap testing by the age of 21. It is vital for patients to prioritize scheduling regular Pap tests along with any necessary follow-up appointments, as these tests can detect cell changes before cancer develops, ensuring timely intervention.

After undergoing a Pap test, roughly one in 10 individuals may receive an abnormal result. Those with such results will be contacted by a healthcare provider for follow-up discussions regarding their next steps.

It is important to note that individuals can arrange for a Pap test any time throughout the year by contacting their primary healthcare provider or by calling one of the toll-free numbers available on the provincial website.
