Brady Boyd has resigned as Senior Pastor of New Life Church in Colorado Springs following serious allegations regarding his knowledge of sexual abuse at a previous church. This announcement was made during a church service, leading to an emotional reaction from the congregation.
Court documents disclosed that Boyd was allegedly aware of a pastor at his former church in Texas who had sexually abused a child. Despite his insistence during a service earlier this year that he was not aware of these details until recently, the church elders expressed their disbelief, stating they had asked him to resign due to a loss of trust. They highlighted inconsistencies in Boyd’s statements regarding his knowledge of the abuse and emphasized that trust is paramount in leadership.
Robert Morris, Boyd’s former mentor, also faces charges related to the sexual abuse of a minor in Oklahoma, which has further complicated matters for Boyd and the church. Although Boyd is not accused of any crimes, the leadership at New Life Church stated that the decision to hire him in 2007 was based on one-sided information they received, which they later found to be misleading.
As Boyd steps down, Daniel Grothe, who has been with New Life Church for two decades, will take over as the new senior pastor. This transition comes at a significant time for the church, as it seeks to heal and rebuild trust within its community after a tumultuous period.
The church’s willingness to confront these issues head-on indicates a step towards accountability and transparency, which could ultimately strengthen the congregation’s resilience and commitment to its core values.
