New Jersey is bracing for a significant weather event on Monday, as heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to lead to flash flooding across the state. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for several counties, including Camden, Gloucester, Sussex, and Mercer, from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. During this period, localized rainfall could reach between 3 to 5 inches within just a couple of hours, highlighting the potential for widespread flash flooding in urban areas and regions with poor drainage.

Forecasters have warned that while a few isolated severe thunderstorms with damaging winds may occur, the primary concern will be the flash flooding from the heavy rainfall. Monday is predicted to start hot and humid, but conditions will deteriorate as storms move in later in the day.

This stormy weather pattern is expected to persist throughout the week, with further chances of showers and thunderstorms anticipated on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The National Weather Service notes that Thursday and Friday will not only be the hottest days of the week but will also pose the highest risk for severe thunderstorms.

The forecast for each region of New Jersey includes scattered opportunities for thunderstorms and a risk of heavy rainfall, with highs near 87 to 91 degrees. The weather will also bring patchy fog in the evenings and overnight, with precipitation chances remaining high throughout the week.

It is crucial for residents to stay informed and prepare for potential flash flooding, especially in susceptible areas. The continuous rainfall might bring challenges; however, these storms can also provide much-needed moisture to local ecosystems, promoting growth and replenishing water sources.

As communities prepare for the weather ahead, it’s important to remain cautious and weather-aware while looking forward to the potential benefits that rain can bring.
