The anticipation for the upcoming “Hunger Games” prequel film, “Sunrise on the Reaping,” is building as the cast continues to be revealed one announcement at a time.
Recently, “The Hunger Games” social media account announced that Lili Taylor, known for her role in “The Haunting,” and Maya Hawke from “Stranger Things” have joined the film’s ensemble. This prequel, based on the novel released in March, is set to explore the dramatic events of the 50th Hunger Games, taking place decades before the original trilogy that starred Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen.
Lili Taylor will portray Mags, a victor from the 11th arena tournament, a character originally played by the late Lynn Cohen in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.” Maya Hawke is set to take on the role of Wiress, the 49th victor of the games, previously depicted by Amanda Plummer. In addition to Taylor and Hawke, “Waves” actor Kelvin Harrison Jr. has been cast as Beetee Latier, who won the 34th tournament, a role originally played by Jeffrey Wright.
The film’s lead character, Haymitch Abernathy, will be played by rising talent Joseph Zada, who is known for his work in “Invisible Boys” and “The Speedway Murders.” Also in the cast are Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, and Ben Wang as Wyatt Callow.
