New Drive-Through Delights: Boba Teas and More Coming to Hodgdon!

HODGDON, Maine — After closing her downtown tea and herb shop in Houlton earlier this year, Randi Farrar heard from several customers who missed her fresh brews. In response, she had her kitchen certified, tested her well water, and purchased a larger vehicle along with a 40-slot cup holder to start delivering her specialty boba iced teas to local businesses and some residential customers.

“It just went crazy,” Farrar remarked, noting that she now delivers over 100 iced teas in a single day, although she’s uncertain how the word spread about her service.

Given the overwhelming demand, Farrar has decided to establish a drive-through business in nearby Hodgdon, where she will offer teas and coffee.

Boba or bubble tea is a popular Taiwanese drink that combines tea with milk, fruit, fruit juices, and tapioca pearls. Farrar opts for popping pearls instead of traditional tapioca in her boba teas, explaining that customers enjoy the experience of these “juice balls” bursting in their mouths as they drink.

She’s in the final stages of preparing Randi’s Corner Perk on Corner Road in Hodgdon, a name inspired by Central Perk, the iconic café from the television show “Friends.” The drive-through is set to operate in the fall, winter, and spring, featuring not only her boba and chaga teas but also coffee, cappuccinos, and quick snacks like muffins and hot egg sandwiches.

The establishment will accommodate about 20 customers inside, pending final occupancy confirmation from the fire marshal. Farrar provided a glimpse of the future drive-through layout, describing a teardrop path designed for convenience.

The building, constructed by Amish craftsmen, has been painted a striking near cobalt blue with white trim. She is also preparing white picket fencing alongside the drive and is considering a weather-resistant menu board for the harsh Maine winters.

In addition to her boba teas, customers will be able to purchase Birch Bark Brews—chaga tea blends that Farrar co-owns with Alyssa Hutchinson—and other herbal products from her Lotus and Leaf business.

Randi’s Corner Perk is expected to open by Thanksgiving, operating Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Farrar gauged interest for the drive-through idea on Facebook and reported receiving a tremendous response, particularly highlighting that many people prefer to remain in their vehicles during winter.
