New DNA Evidence Links WWII Veteran to 1995 Child Disappearance

On October 1, the Alma Police Department identified Billy Jack Lincks as an official suspect in the case of missing 6-year-old Morgan Nick, based on DNA evidence discovered in his truck.

Morgan Nick vanished on June 9, 1995, after her mother took her to a little league baseball game in Alma. During the game, Morgan went off with friends to catch fireflies but was left alone and has not been seen since. Over the years, her family, along with the FBI and local authorities, have tirelessly searched for answers regarding her disappearance.

In 2021, the FBI connected Lincks, a WWII veteran and long-time resident of Van Buren, to Morgan’s abduction. Lincks attempted to kidnap an 11-year-old girl just eight miles from where Morgan was last seen, two months after her disappearance. While Lincks was questioned about Morgan’s case, he denied knowing anything. He was convicted of sexually soliciting a child and passed away in prison in 2000, without being investigated as a suspect in Morgan’s case until after his death.

The recent revelation came after police analyzed Lincks’s truck, which the current owner permitted them to investigate. In 2020, the FBI conducted DNA testing on hair found in the vehicle. In July 2023, Alma Detective Sean Taylor learned of a new advanced DNA testing method that could analyze hair strands regardless of whether they had roots. A lab report from September 27, 2024, indicated that the hair matched either Morgan’s mother, Colleen Nick, or a relative, while the Nick family had no previous acquaintance with Lincks and had never been in the truck. The evidence suggests that Morgan was likely in Lincks’s vehicle.

Alma Police Chief Jeff Pointer has now named Lincks as the primary suspect in Morgan’s abduction, while investigators continue to seek clarity on what transpired after her disappearance from the baseball park. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the case to contact them at 1-800-843-5678.
