Barry Morphew, the husband of Colorado mother Suzanne Morphew, has been re-arrested for first-degree murder in connection with her death over five years ago. This marks the second time he has faced murder charges related to her disappearance, which began when she went on a bike ride on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2020, and failed to return.
Initially, Barry Morphew was arrested on May 5, 2021, and faced charges including murder after deliberation, tampering with physical evidence, and attempting to influence a public servant. However, those charges were dismissed in April 2022 when the court granted a motion from the 11th Judicial District Attorney, Linda Stanley, allowing the possibility of future charges.
In the interim, a disciplinary board has sought to disbar Stanley due to alleged inappropriate comments made to the press that may have influenced the trial’s venue. Following the dismissal of the first charges, Barry Morphew filed a $15 million lawsuit against several law enforcement agencies and the district attorney’s office, asserting he was wrongfully accused. That lawsuit was dismissed in September 2024.
On September 22, 2023, Suzanne Morphew’s remains were found in Moffat, Colorado, and identified days later. The El Paso County Coroner conducted an autopsy confirming the cause of death as homicide involving a combination of tranquilizers typically used in veterinary medicine for wildlife sedation.
Recently, a Grand Jury in the Twelfth Judicial District has indicted Barry Morphew again for the murder of his wife, and he was apprehended in Gilbert, Arizona. The district attorney’s office expressed its commitment to seeking justice, underlining the dedication of law enforcement to this case.
Barry Morphew is currently held on a $3 million bond. The public is encouraged to share any information related to the case through designated contact avenues.
This development may offer a glimmer of hope for Suzanne Morphew’s family as they seek justice and closure after years of uncertainty and grief surrounding her tragic disappearance.
