Cap is back!
Marvel Studios has unveiled the first trailer for “Captain America: Brave New World,” the fourth installment in the Captain America series and the first featuring Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, previously known as the Falcon.
Mackie takes over the Captain America role from Chris Evans, who portrayed Steve Rogers in the previous three Captain America movies and four Avengers films. In 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” Steve Rogers travels back in time to spend his life with Peggy Carter and passes his iconic vibranium shield to Sam Wilson, who promises to uphold the legacy.
In the newly released trailer, Sam is introduced to Harrison Ford’s character, U.S. President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who plans to appoint Captain America as a U.S. agent. The action intensifies quickly when Sam thwarts an assassination attempt at the White House. The trailer wraps up with a glimpse of the new character Red Hulk, the alter ego of “Thunderbolt” Ross in the Marvel comics. Whether the movie follows this specific comic storyline remains to be seen.
Fans first saw Sam don the Captain America suit in the Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” where he partnered with Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes to battle terrorist threats. The series was well-received, garnering positive reviews and five Emmy nominations.
“Captain America: Brave New World” marks Mackie’s return to the Marvel universe. The cast includes Danny Ramirez as the new Falcon, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Shira Haas as Israeli superhero Sabra, Giancarlo Esposito as a mysterious villain, and Harrison Ford stepping into the role of “Thunderbolt” Ross. Additionally, the movie brings back Liv Tyler as Betty Ross and Tim Blake Nelson as the Leader from the “Incredible Hulk” film.
Directed by Julius Onah and written by Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson, and Matthew Orton, “Captain America: Brave New World” is set to hit theaters on February 12, 2025.
