New Caledonia’s AS PTT Club showcased their exceptional talent and determination in a dominant performance against Mataks FC from the Solomon Islands, winning 6-1 in the OFC Futsal Championship. This matchup served as a rematch of the 2024 final, with both teams eager to establish supremacy.
From the outset, Mataks FC applied pressure, seeking revenge for their earlier defeat. Led by players Clifford Misitana and Calvin Do’oro, with support from Owen Bunabo and Elis Mana, they aimed to control the game. Mataks FC’s efforts bore fruit when captain Elis Mana successfully struck the opening goal after a key turnover created by goalkeeper Benjamin Maeidua’s courageous defensive play.
However, AS PTT quickly retaliated as Jymael Upa sprinted down the sideline, assisting Emmanuel Hmaen to find the equalizer. The pace of the game escalated as both teams fought for dominance, seemingly locked in a competitive struggle at 1-1. That is until Christ Pei propelled AS PTT ahead with a remarkable goal scored with just four minutes left in the first half, closing that period at 2-1.
In the second half, the flow remained in favor of AS PTT, with Upa delivering a remarkable ball to Hary Hmaloko, who netted another for his team, extending their lead. AS PTT’s goalkeeper Matthieu Wassin proved instrumental, demonstrating an impressive defensive presence against the relentless attack from Mataks FC.
Things took a turn for Mataks when substitute goalkeeper Lordrick Afia was red carded, forcing the team into a challenging position as they deployed a flying keeper for the remainder of the match. This strategic alteration did not aid Mataks as Christ Pei, securing his hat trick, successfully blasted another goal from distance.
AS PTT continued to demonstrate their prowess on the field, finishing the match with an impressive 6-1 scoreline. This victory not only reflects New Caledonia’s growing strength in futsal but also signifies their unwavering ambition to succeed in the Oceania football landscape, foraying into future competitions with renewed confidence and determination.
