The match initially saw Fiji exerting considerable pressure, creating various scoring chances during the first half. However, New Caledonia’s goalkeeper, Elizabeth Aben, delivered a stellar performance, thwarting attempts from Fiji’s Adi Reva, Sereana Naweni, and substitute Emele Vunivalu, which kept the scoreline level.

The momentum shifted in favor of New Caledonia in the second half, where they managed to break the deadlock against the flow of play. In the 59th minute, Kheiméra Gondou took advantage of a defensive error from Fiji, striking a powerful shot into the net to give her team the lead. Aziliz Naaoutchoue then doubled the advantage in the 71st minute, scoring after a free kick rattled the crossbar and fell back into play.
