PHILADELPHIA — Saquon Barkley and Xavier McKinney dedicated a decade to the New York Giants, becoming integral parts of the team during their time together. Barkley was a dynamic force on offense, while McKinney stood out on defense.

However, their tenure with the Giants is now over. This offseason, Barkley signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, joining one of the most formidable offenses in the NFL. Similarly, McKinney moved to the Green Bay Packers to bolster their revamped secondary.

The Eagles had hoped to sign both players, but McKinney’s contract demands exceeded their budget. Instead of reuniting as teammates, they are set to face each other for the first time in the season opener on Friday.

“I look forward to playing against Xavier,” Barkley expressed. “Not only is he a great player, but he’s a great leader. His work ethic and drive to excel are commendable. I know he’s doing that over there.”

Barkley reminisced about a memorable moment with McKinney during their time with the Giants. As a rookie, McKinney was a highly touted pick, having been selected in the second round. Barkley, already seasoned in his third year, felt it was his duty to show McKinney the challenges of the NFL.

“My claim to fame with Xavier is that I gave him his ‘welcome to the NFL’ moment,” Barkley laughed. “During practice, I ran a gap scheme play, and he tackled me hard. I got the better of him that time, and I think he might be thinking about getting his revenge.”

The respect between them is evident, with McKinney acknowledging the skills Barkley brings to the field.

“He’s just dynamic with the ball,” McKinney commented. “He embodies everything you want in a running back. You’ve seen the incredible things he’s done over the years. When he has the ball, whether running or receiving, he can do it all. He’s truly a unique talent.”

Barkley and McKinney have stayed in touch via text messages this offseason, maintaining their friendship despite moving on from the Giants. Both players secured the contracts they desired and are now focused on elevating their new teams.

“I’m excited to show the fans what we bring,” Barkley added. “We know we’re going to face their best, so we need to be prepared and execute the game plan.”
