New allegations have emerged against the acclaimed novelist Neil Gaiman, expanding an already significant list of accusations from women who claim he sexually assaulted them. Vulture reported four new allegations, in addition to the five already outlined in a previous investigation by the U.K. media outlet Tortoise in their forthcoming podcast series titled “Master: the allegations against Neil Gaiman,” expected to launch in summer 2024.
Gaiman, 64, known for his works such as “The Sandman,” “Good Omens,” “American Gods,” and “Coraline,” has had numerous successful adaptations of his novels into film and television. The allegations include incidents that reportedly occurred when the women were in their 20s, contrasting Gaiman’s age, which was typically in his 40s or older at the time. The youngest accused victim was just 18.
Among the detailed accounts, one woman, Scarlett Pavlovich, described an alleged assault that occurred in a bathtub on Gaiman’s property in 2022, while she worked as a nanny for his then-estranged wife, Amanda Palmer. Pavlovich detailed moments of coercion and physical assault, which included acts that left her traumatized. Another woman noted her experience of being forced against her will during a bus tour in 2012.
Gaiman’s representatives have described the incidents as consensual interactions within the realm of BDSM practices. Friends of his ex-wife, Amanda Palmer, also provided insights suggesting that their relationship was open, which might have complicated the dynamics during the alleged incidents.
These revelations come at a time when Gaiman’s professional projects are being scrutinized, with reports stating that several adaptations associated with him have been paused or scaled back. For instance, Disney reportedly halted work on its film adaptation of “The Graveyard Book,” while Amazon confirmed that the series “Good Omens” would conclude with a special episode instead of a full season.
In light of the serious nature of these allegations, it is essential for society to address and discuss the complexities surrounding consent and power dynamics in relationships, particularly in the entertainment industry. The willingness of victims to come forward highlights the importance of fostering an environment where such discussions can lead to meaningful changes and accountability.
This article serves as a reminder of the necessary shift towards transparency and respect in all personal and professional interactions, advocating for both victims’ voices and robust discussions around these crucial issues.
