Seagate appears to be preparing to launch a new 4TB Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S users, expanding the options for gamers looking to boost their console’s storage capacity. Although the product has not been officially confirmed by Seagate, a recent preemptive listing on Best Buy suggested a price tag of $430 before it was swiftly removed. With an Xbox Showcase scheduled for June 8, it’s likely that the new card may be unveiled during the event.
Currently, Seagate offers 1TB and 2TB Expansion Cards, while the 512GB variant seems to have been phased out. Similar to its predecessors, the upcoming 4TB card will serve as a plug-and-play upgrade, allowing users to easily insert the card into the designated port on the back of the console for immediate use.
One significant advantage of these Expansion Cards is their compatibility with Xbox’s Velocity architecture, ensuring rapid load times for games while also allowing for easy data transfers across multiple consoles. Users benefit from the fact that they typically receive nearly all of the advertised storage space on the Expansion Cards; for instance, the 1TB model provides around 920GB of usable space, while the internal storage of an Xbox console includes only 802GB available for games, due to system requirements.
In addition to Seagate’s offerings, Western Digital has also introduced its C50 Expansion Card in 2023, available in 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB versions. The competitive landscape has led to a decrease in prices, with the WD Black 2TB model dropping from its original price of $400 to around $250, making these storage solutions more accessible for gamers.
