Nevada Weekend Weather: Rain Arrives, Snow on the Horizon

A shift in the timing of upcoming weather patterns indicates that Southern Nevada is in for a weekend of active weather, with rain expected to move in.

As of Wednesday, the region is experiencing mostly cloudy skies, with Las Vegas reaching high temperatures around 76 degrees. Conditions remain mild, with light winds contributing to a comfortable day. The air quality is classified as ‘good’ to ‘moderate’ due to haze, while pollen levels remain low.

Tonight, the skies are predicted to shift from mostly cloudy to partly cloudy, with overnight temperatures dropping into the mid and upper 50s, accompanied by light winds from the southwest at speeds up to 10 mph.

Looking ahead, the timing for the anticipated storm has become less predictable, but models now suggest scattered rain showers could begin as early as Friday. However, the majority of the rainfall is forecasted to arrive on Saturday, continuing into Sunday.

The warmer nature of this upcoming system has resulted in an elevation increase for the snow level. In the Sierra Nevada, snowfall is still expected, with several inches projected for elevations above 9,000 feet and up to 4 inches at lower elevations. The forecast indicates that areas above 9,000 feet may see between 9 to 12 inches of snow.

Rainfall amounts in the valley could range from .10 inches to .75 inches, while light snow is also a possibility on the highest peaks of the Spring Mountains. As the storm progresses into next week, rain chances are expected to persist, although the exact timing remains uncertain.

Temperatures are set to drop, with highs expected to fall from the mid to upper 70s on Wednesday and Thursday down to the low 60s this weekend, and into the upper 50s to low 60s next week as another weather system approaches.
