The Royal Netherlands Air Force has achieved a significant milestone by recording its first confirmed combat kill using the F-35A fighter jet against a Russian drone. The aircraft involved, identified as tail number F-027, is from the 313th Squadron and was showcased in a photograph released by the Dutch Ministry of Defense on September 30.
A user on X, known as Jeff21461, drew attention to an official image demonstrating the aircraft adorned with a “kill mark” on its fuselage, signifying the successful downing of an enemy target. The incident took place on September 9 during a Russian drone attack on Poland, marking a historic moment as the first confirmed destruction of a Russian drone by a NATO-operated fifth-generation F-35 fighter.
Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans noted the continued threat posed by Russian aggression, stating that the deployment of F-35s to Poland underscores the Netherlands’ commitment to collective defense among NATO allies. He emphasized that the security of NATO’s eastern border is also of paramount concern to the Netherlands.
From September 1 to December 1, the Dutch F-35 fighters are stationed in Poland as part of NATO’s defense operations. During this deployment, Dutch pilots have engaged in multiple combat missions, reinforcing NATO’s collaborative stance against threats in the region.
