Netflix is expanding its repertoire of original content with the acquisition of the rights to Emily Giffin’s novel, “All We Ever Wanted,” which is set to be adapted into a television series. The project is currently in development and aims to bring a compelling mix of high drama, class conflict, and romantic intrigue to the streaming platform.

Described as a “soapy and scandalous drama,” the series will delve into the hidden secrets and socio-economic tensions of an affluent suburban community, centered around a passionate love affair between a privileged mother and a struggling single father. This relationship threatens to unravel the facades of the community and expose the underlying sins and lies of those living in proximity.

Jessica Goldberg, known for her work on series like “Away,” “The Path,” and “Parenthood,” will take on the roles of showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter will produce the series under their Hello Sunshine banner, joined by Harlan Coben from Final Twist Productions and Nicola Shindler from Quay Street Productions. This marks an exciting collaboration between Witherspoon and Coben, as they previously partnered on the co-written thriller novel “Gone Before Goodbye,” which was released on October 9, 2025, and quickly ascended to the New York Times bestseller list.

This adaptation represents the first collaboration between Witherspoon and Coben for a series, adding to Netflix’s growing collection of adaptations. The platform has a strong history of working either separately or together with the involved parties, including successful projects like “From Scratch,” “Your Place Or Mine,” and various adaptations of Coben’s novels, which have garnered significant viewership.

Coben, who has teamed up with Netflix for a total of 11 adaptations of his literary works, continues to be a key figure in the streamer’s catalog with upcoming projects like the limited series “Run Away,” set to premiere on January 1, 2026, and the thriller series “I Will Find You.” Past adaptations of his work include the widely popular series “Safe,” “The Woods,” and “The Stranger,” among others, demonstrating a strong trend in Netflix’s focus on high-quality book adaptations.

The enthusiasm surrounding “All We Ever Wanted” reflects Netflix’s commitment to story-driven content that resonates with audiences, providing both an escape and a deeper understanding of societal dynamics. As the series progresses, there is considerable anticipation surrounding its potential impact on viewers and its ability to contribute to the ongoing conversation about class and relationships in modern society.
