Nebraska women’s basketball cruises in exhibition, builds momentum for season opener

The Nebraska women’s basketball team showcased an impressive performance in their exhibition game, dominating Mount Marty with a 104-40 victory at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Friday night. This match served as the Cornhuskers’ only preparatory game before the regular season begins.

Amiah Hargrove delivered a standout performance, securing a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds, shooting an impressive 10-for-15 from the field, including an exceptional six-for-eight from beyond the arc. Britt Prince also contributed significantly, achieving a double-double of her own with 14 points and 10 assists. Callin Hake added to the scoring spree, racking up 22 points and shooting a remarkable six-for-eight from three-point range. In her debut, Claire Johnson contributed 11 points, along with six assists, while Petra Bozan chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds.

On the other side, Lacey Sprakel was the standout for Mount Marty, scoring 14 points and grabbing eight rebounds, but the Lancers struggled overall, with no other player reaching more than six points.

Nebraska excelled offensively, shooting 49 percent from both the field and three-point range, compared to Mount Marty’s 28 percent from the field and a mere two-for-17 from three-point distance. The Cornhuskers showcased their strength on the boards, outrebounding the Lancers 48-38, and significantly outscoring them in the paint, 38-18. The team displayed exceptional ball movement, tallying 32 assists while limiting Mount Marty to just five.

The game got off to a roaring start for Nebraska, who initiated a 14-2 run and maintained control throughout, leading 29-8 after the first quarter, 55-17 at halftime, and 75-31 heading into the final period. To cap off their commanding performance, the Huskers concluded the game with a 15-0 run.

Looking ahead, Nebraska is set to begin their regular season against Northwestern State on November 3 at noon at Pinnacle Bank Arena, and their collective effort in the exhibition game lays a strong foundation for the upcoming season.
