Nebraska Volleyball Extends Dominance with Northwestern Sweep

The top-ranked Nebraska volleyball team showcased their dominance once again, continuing their impressive streak with a decisive sweep of Northwestern, finishing the match with scores of 25-17, 25-13, and 25-17. With this victory, the Huskers have now won 31 consecutive sets, underscoring their position as a formidable force in collegiate volleyball.

From the outset, Nebraska displayed their superiority in both offense and defense. Entering the match with the nation’s highest hitting percentage, they did not disappoint, achieving a .357 rate against the Wildcats. Harper Murray led the charge with nine kills at a hitting percentage of .286, while Teraya Sigler and Rebekah Allick contributed seven kills each, maintaining an impressive .417 clip.

Nebraska’s defensive prowess was equally noteworthy, as they effectively stifled Northwestern’s attempts to mount a challenge. The Wildcats struggled throughout the match, ending with a season-low hitting percentage of .099—significantly below their previous low of .157.

The first set saw Nebraska initially stumble, allowing Northwestern to briefly take a 9-8 lead. However, the Huskers responded decisively, embarking on a 5-0 run that prompted an early timeout from the Wildcats. Nebraska’s defense tightened thereafter, recording six blocks, with Allick leading the charge with three. The first set ended with the Huskers hitting .375, showcasing their ability to adapt and overcome a rocky start.

In the second set, the Huskers seized control with a commanding 25-13 victory, finishing on a 9-1 run. Northwestern struggled with hitting errors, making eight in this set alone, while Nebraska only recorded one. Despite an injury to outside hitter Taylor Landfair, who had to leave the match, the Huskers maintained their momentum.

By the time the third set rolled around, Nebraska was firmly in control. The Wildcats attempted to rally, hitting above .300 at times, but ultimately could not keep pace as Nebraska’s defense continued to shine. The Huskers wrapped up the match with their least efficient hitting percentage of the night at .333, comfortably outpacing the Wildcats, who finished the set with a .053 hitting percentage.

The Nebraska volleyball team will look to extend their remarkable performance as they prepare to take on Michigan State on Saturday, October 25, at 7:30 p.m. CT on the Big Ten Network. They previously swept the Spartans, making this upcoming match an anticipated event for fans and players alike.

Nebraska’s current form is a testament to their hard work and resilience, promising an exciting remainder of the season as they continue to dominate the competition.
