This week, as I prepare to visit Nebraska, I must express my admiration for the remarkable performance of the Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team. Despite including them in my Top 25 rankings early in the season, it wasn’t until last week that I ranked them in the top 10, placing them at number nine. Now, they have skyrocketed to the fourth position.

Nebraska boasts an impressive record of 18-0, and they are currently tied for first in the Big Ten with Purdue, both teams sitting at 7-0 in the conference. The Huskers lead the conference in efficiency margin, and their flawless record is not a mere coincidence. They have emerged as one of only four teams with at least 10 wins in the first two quadrants of games, alongside UConn and Michigan, who both stand at 11-1, and Duke at 10-1. The Huskers’ performance indicates they may be the most well-executed team on both ends of the floor in college basketball.

Recent game statistics underline Nebraska’s shooting prowess: they have made 45 three-pointers over their last three games. Their offensive strategy involves elite spacing and precise passing, resulting in an average of 27.4 catch-and-shoot jumpers per game, ranking fifth nationally. Unlike many teams that focus on corner shots, Nebraska prefers attempts from above the break, leveraging quick reflexes and swift ball movement.

In more news, UConn remains a formidable force, holding opponents to a mere 27.5 percent shooting from beyond the arc. Their defensive efforts have notably improved, particularly with Tarris Reed Jr. on the floor, showcasing their ability to guard effectively and limiting opponents to minimal shots from deep.

Duke continues to impress with their innovative play, boasting three elite passing big men who contribute significantly to their offensive efficiency. Similarly, Kansas is beginning to discover a formidable duo in Flory Bidunga and Darryn Peterson, positioning them as a threat in the Big 12.

Florida has also found its rhythm, enjoying a four-game winning streak with an offensive efficiency that is the best in college basketball during that stretch. Their guard duo, despite challenges with shooting, is making key contributions in crucial moments.

On the other hand, North Carolina is experiencing difficulties on defense, which has been highlighted as a significant concern as they navigate their ACC schedule, permitting a high number of points per possession. Nonetheless, they continue to have standout performances from players like Caleb Wilson.

Meanwhile, St. John’s and Wisconsin both find themselves rising in the ranks. St. John’s is on a four-game winning streak, showcasing the best offensive production in Big East play, while Wisconsin has demonstrated an effective offensive strategy centered around pick-and-roll plays.

Overall, this season continues to unfold in thrilling ways, with several teams showcasing their strengths. As we delve deeper into conference play, it will be fascinating to see how these teams adapt and perform in the coming weeks.
