A manhunt is currently underway in eastern North Carolina for a wanted murder suspect, Dominic Liam Connelly, who allegedly assaulted a deputy in a Bojangles restaurant bathroom. Authorities report that the 24-year-old was already wanted in connection with the murder of his grandmother, Patricia Lopedote.

On October 29, deputies received a tip regarding Connelly’s possible location at the Vanceboro Bojangles. Upon their arrival, he reportedly used a knife to attack a deputy before fleeing the scene. This violent act led to the issuance of a Blue Alert, a warning protocol following violent offenses against law enforcement officers.

Sheriff Chip Hughes of Craven County expressed confidence that Connelly would be apprehended by the end of Thursday. Search efforts are extensive, employing drones and K-9 units to locate him.

Patricia Lopedote’s body was discovered in her burned home in Havelock on October 25, leading to authorities naming Connelly as the primary suspect in her murder. Additionally, he is charged with first-degree arson and motor vehicle theft, as Lopedote’s car had been reported missing prior to her death; it was found abandoned in a New Bern parking lot on October 28.

Connelly is now facing further charges, including attempted first-degree murder, felony assault against a law enforcement officer causing serious injury, and resisting arrest. He is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing around 135 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes. At the time of the incident, he was last seen wearing dark clothing and running towards Bailey Lane Apartments, which are located near the restaurant.

Authorities urge anyone who might spot Connelly to avoid approaching him and to call 911 immediately. The sheriff’s office has also warned that anyone assisting Connelly in evading law enforcement could face criminal charges. Those with additional information regarding this case or Connelly’s whereabouts can contact the Craven County Sheriff’s Office at 252-636-6620 or Craven County Communications at 252-633-2357. Anonymous tips may be submitted through the Craven County Crime Stoppers app, with a reward available for information leading to his arrest.
