NBCUniversal has announced an elite lineup for its coverage of the Opening Ceremony of the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympic Winter Games. Award-winning journalist and TODAY co-anchor, Savannah Guthrie, alongside esteemed commentator Terry Gannon, will be hosting the prestigious event. Joining them in the booth will be Shaun White, a five-time Olympian and three-time snowboarding gold medalist, providing his expert insights on the Parade of Nations.
Set in the iconic San Siro Stadium in Milan, known for housing legendary football clubs AC Milan and Inter Milan, the Opening Ceremony promises to celebrate both the Games and the vibrant cultural heritage of Italy. This marks the first Winter Games in Western Europe in two decades, bringing special significance to the celebration.
Mike Tirico will also make contributions from northern California as he gears up for Super Bowl LX coverage. The live event will air at 12 p.m. ET with broader primetime coverage following at 8 p.m. ET, both accessible on NBC and Peacock platforms.
This engagement makes it Guthrie’s fourth Opening Ceremony assignment and Gannon’s first as a host for such an event. Guthrie expressed excitement in joining Gannon and White, noting the honor of introducing the Games to audiences worldwide. The Milan Cortina Olympics will feature a unique array of settings throughout northern Italy, spotlighting the region’s natural beauty alongside the athletic feats.
Shaun White, in his new commentator role, hopes to convey the magic of the Olympics to audiences while reminiscing his extensive history with the Games. For White, this transition from athlete to commentator marks yet another significant milestone in his decorated career.
The 2026 Winter Games will carry forward the legacy of Italy’s Olympic hostings, following previous events in Cortina and Turin. As NBCUniversal holds the U.S. broadcasting rights through 2036, the media giant anticipates delivering extensive coverage, ensuring fans don’t miss out on any of the action from Milan Cortina and beyond.
