NBC has confirmed that its celebrated figure skating broadcast team, consisting of Terry Gannon, Tara Lipinski, and Johnny Weir, will once again take center stage to host the closing ceremony of the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. This trio is well acquainted with the role, having previously hosted closing ceremonies for both summer and winter games, including events in Paris, Beijing, Tokyo, and PyeongChang.

Earlier in the year during the Milan preparations, Gannon was initially scheduled to co-host the opening ceremony alongside Today anchor Savannah Guthrie. However, following the kidnapping of her mother, which remains under investigation, Guthrie had to withdraw from the event. Veteran sports broadcaster Mary Carillo stepped in to fill the slot.

NBC’s coverage of the Milan closing ceremony will feature two broadcasts on Sunday. The event will be aired live at 2:30 p.m. ET, followed by a one-hour highlight recap titled “Best of Milan Cortina 2026” displaying the notable moments from the winter games. Following the Olympic coverage, NBC will transition to its new Sunday Night Basketball franchise, starting with a pregame show before the highly anticipated match between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers at 6 p.m. ET.

Additionally, NBC will re-broadcast the closing ceremony during prime time, with host Mike Tirico and well-known NBC Olympic reporters Andrea Joyce and Lewis Johnson contributing to the coverage.

The decision to appoint Gannon, Lipinski, and Weir once again underscores NBC’s confidence in their capabilities—not just in figure skating but as key figures in the larger narrative of Olympic broadcasting. It’s remarkable to note that this trio has been presenting Olympic ceremonies for nearly a decade, garnering a reputation as one of the top broadcasting teams in sports. Their unique blend of insight, entertainment, and chemistry solidifies their deserving status as the face of NBC’s coverage, marking yet another successful chapter in their Olympic endeavors, particularly following the acclaim received during the Summer Olympics in Paris two years prior.
