Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas has been arrested on suspicion of operating an illegal high-stakes poker game from his Encino mansion, according to an announcement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The 43-year-old former Washington Wizards star faces three charges: conspiracy to run an illegal gambling operation, operating an illegal gambling enterprise, and making false statements to investigators.

Arenas allegedly enlisted the help of Arthur Kats to stage his mansion for hosting these high-stakes poker games and collect rent from participants. While Kats was implicated in the operation, he was not among those arrested.

In total, five individuals were taken into custody in connection with this gambling operation. Among them is Yevgeni Gershman, identified as a suspected organized-crime figure from Israel. All the arrested parties are charged with conspiracy to operate an illegal gambling business and operating an illegal gambling business.

Arenas and the others are scheduled to be arraigned at the United States District Court in downtown Los Angeles. This incident highlights the ongoing issues surrounding illegal gambling activities and the involvement of high-profile individuals.
