Residents of Navunisaleka Settlement in Kalabu, Naitasiri, are now enjoying safer access to essential services thanks to the inauguration of a new foot crossing. The project, funded by the government at a cost of $36,000, was officially opened by Minister for Rural and Maritime Development, Sakiasi Ditoka. This new crossing replaces a previously used makeshift bridge that posed significant safety risks, especially during flood periods.
Minister Ditoka highlighted that this initiative reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing safety and connectivity in rural communities. By providing a more reliable route, the foot crossing addresses long-standing issues faced by local residents, ensuring that they have easier access to critical services and facilitating the movement of people, particularly in emergencies.
Village Headman Seremaia Saga expressed gratitude towards the government, noting that the new crossing has significantly alleviated the challenges that residents previously encountered. The development promises to enhance the quality of life for the community, demonstrating the government’s continuous efforts to invest in infrastructure that benefits rural populations.
Similar infrastructure projects across Fiji, including recent bridges and footcrossings in other regions, emphasize a broader commitment by the government to improve connectivity and safety. One notable example is the Naseyani Bridge, which has significantly impacted the nearby villages, reflecting a trend towards infrastructural improvements that empower community resilience and ensure equitable access to essential services. These advancements contribute positively to local economies and foster a sense of unity among inhabitants.
The new foot crossing in Navunisaleka not only ensures safer travel for residents but symbolizes a hopeful step forward in Fiji’s ongoing journey towards better infrastructure and improved accessibility across rural regions, ultimately paving the way for future growth and development opportunities.
