Navosa drug raid: Woman in custody as armed suspect flees on horseback

A woman has been arrested as authorities continue their search for a man who allegedly threatened police officers during a drug raid in Navosa. The incident took place yesterday when Western Division Operations officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Vunibota Settlement. Reports indicate that the male suspect, armed with a knife, threatened the police team before escaping on horseback.

During the operation, law enforcement discovered nearly 2,000 dried plants wrapped in cloth, as well as zip lock bags containing dried leaves and seeds, suspected to be marijuana. The 48-year-old woman at the property has been placed in custody while investigations proceed. The seized substances have been sent for analysis to determine their legality.

This raid is part of a broader effort by law enforcement agencies to combat illegal drug activities nationwide. Just this week, authorities have made multiple arrests related to unlawful possession of marijuana and methamphetamine in various locations, including Labasa Market, Makoi, and Taveuni.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Kasiano Vusonilawe, has stated that enforcement measures will be amplified in anticipation of the festive season. He has urged the public to report any information regarding drug-related activities through Crimestoppers or the National Police Command Center, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in enhancing public safety.

The commitment of the Fiji Police Force to address drug-related issues and engage with the community presents a positive outlook for future initiatives. By promoting public awareness and vigilance, the authorities aim to foster a safer environment for all citizens during the upcoming holiday celebrations.
