The Navatusila Grid Extension Project in Nabutautau, Navosa was officially inaugurated yesterday by the Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, Hon. Ro Filipe Tuisawau. This project is a significant part of the Government’s initiative to achieve complete electricity access across Fiji, particularly focusing on rural and interior communities.

Funded entirely by the Government at a cost of $5.4 million, the project has successfully connected 10 villages and one settlement, thereby benefiting 407 households and approximately 2,035 residents. The work completed under this initiative included the extension of the main power grid and the installation of safe house wiring, ensuring that homes are well-equipped to receive a reliable electricity supply.

The introduction of electricity is expected to have a transformative impact on the local community, improving study conditions for students, enhancing health services, promoting small business growth, and boosting agricultural productivity in the area. Minister Tuisawau praised the collaboration among community leaders, Energy Fiji Limited (EFL), and Ministry officials, expressing gratitude toward the people of Navatusila for their patience during the project’s execution.

He emphasized that the commissioning symbolizes more than just infrastructure development; it marks a significant step towards greater opportunities and empowerment for the residents of Navatusila. This project illustrates the commitment of the Fijian Government to fostering growth and improving the quality of life for its citizens, especially in underserved areas.
