A bomb threat mock exercise took place at Nausori International Airport yesterday, showcasing a robust presence of police and military personnel as the domestic arrival area was secured. Despite the heightened security measures, passengers experienced no disruptions during the drill, allowing normal airport operations to continue.
The exercise, coordinated by a delegation of police officers from New Zealand, involved thorough inspections of the airport lounge alongside the use of police dogs and participation from ambulance services and firefighters. This collaborative effort provided a realistic simulation of a coordinated emergency response, underscoring the importance of readiness in the face of potential threats.
Authorities stated that the primary objective of the drill was to enhance airport security protocols and ensure that both local and international law enforcement agencies are prepared to effectively respond to any actual emergencies. This initiative not only aims to bolster security measures at the airport but also reflects the strong cooperation between Fijian forces and their international counterparts.
