Fans of the mystery series “Poker Face,” led by Natasha Lyonne, were taken aback when Peacock announced its cancellation after just two seasons. However, Lyonne herself was not surprised by this decision. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she revealed that the team had already prepared for the possibility of the show’s conclusion. The Season 2 finale, titled “The End of the Road,” had been crafted with this in mind, serving as a fitting series finale.

Lyonne emphasized that the title should have hinted at the show’s end. In the gripping finale, her character Charlie Cale reveals a shocking truth about her newfound friend Alex, who turns out to be a secret assassin. Just before Alex drives Charlie’s beloved Plymouth Barracuda off a cliff, she manages to escape, marking a dramatic conclusion to the series.

As for the cancellation, Lyonne expressed her desire to explore new creative avenues, stating, “For me, baby’s gotta direct some movies. I’ve been talking about it long enough.” In addition to her directing ambitions, she is set to write and star in a British sci-fi comedy, “Force & Majeure,” alongside Matt Berry, known for his role in “What We Do in the Shadows.”

Interestingly, Lyonne showed support for the possibility of Peter Dinklage taking on the lead in future seasons of “Poker Face,” stating, “Peter is also one of my favorite people of all time.” She also hinted at the potential for a return to her character Charlie with the idea of creating a made-for-TV movie in the style of classic series like “Columbo.”

Fans may consider Lyonne’s next steps a silver lining, hinting at future projects that could bring her unique storytelling to new audiences.
