Natalie Leach Haslam, a prominent philanthropist and community leader in East Tennessee, passed away on January 16, 2026, at the age of 94. The announcement of her death did not detail the circumstances but confirmed she was at home.

Haslam, along with her husband James A. Haslam II and their family foundation, made significant contributions to the University of Tennessee (UT), including a historic $32.5 million donation in 2006. Of that amount, $10 million was allocated to the construction of the Natalie L. Haslam Music Center, making her the first woman to have a college at UT named in her honor. During the dedication of the music center, Haslam reflected on her love for music, expressing its importance in the fabric of everyday life.

A 1952 graduate of the University of Tennessee, Haslam was deeply involved in campus life, participating in organizations such as the Chi Omega sorority and the French Club, and she was recognized as “Miss Tennessee 1951-52.” Beyond her academic achievements, she held significant leadership roles throughout her life, including the first female president of the Knoxville Symphony Society and positions in various community organizations like the East Tennessee Foundation, the Knoxville Garden Club, and the Arts & Cultural Alliance of Greater Knoxville.

In addition to her work with local nonprofits such as Friends of Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Tennessee Arts Commission, Haslam was known for her unwavering commitment to enriching her community.
