Nasinu’s $53.8M housing project breaks ground with 600 serviced lots

A significant housing initiative is set to begin in Veikoba, Delaivalelevu in Nasinu, a project valued at $53.8 million spearheaded by the Housing Authority of Fiji. This project will encompass more than 116 acres and feature 600 fully serviced lots, aiming to provide much-needed housing solutions to the region.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place this morning, officiated by Minister for Housing Maciu Nalumisa. He expressed gratitude to the landowners for their cooperation in facilitating this development, emphasizing its importance in addressing Fiji’s ongoing housing crisis.

Housing Authority Chief Executive Isikeli Navuda highlighted the project’s extraordinary value, indicating that it marks one of the largest developments under the authority. The landowners involved have expressed their satisfaction with the project, citing its potential to bring benefits both to them and future generations. They also shared the challenges they faced, including legal battles over land occupancy, which have now seemingly been resolved.

This development aligns with the broader objectives of the Housing Authority, which has recently sanctioned a $39 million loan to advance ongoing projects and introduce new developments across the country. These initiatives are set to provide thousands of residential lots and are part of a comprehensive strategy to alleviate the housing shortage and enhance living conditions for Fijians.

Additionally, the government is actively promoting various support programs, such as adjustable interest rates on home loans and initiatives aimed at helping first-time homebuyers, reinforcing its commitment to increasing accessibility to affordable housing.

Overall, these developments reflect a hopeful outlook for housing in Fiji, as they pave the way towards more stable, secure living conditions while encouraging socio-economic benefits for the communities involved.
