The Nasinu Under-20 rugby team’s recent 15-13 victory over the Northern Bulls is being hailed as an early achievement in the team’s ambitious three-year development plan. Spearheaded by head coach Usaia Dakuitoga, the team predominantly consists of youthful talent from CMF College, Nasinu, Lelean Memorial School, and Nabua Secondary School. This diverse composition of 17-year-olds managed to clinch their first win of the Vodafone Vanua Trophy season with a thrilling last-minute try.
Despite opening the season with two losses, Dakuitoga remains optimistic about the team’s capacity to grow and achieve future success. “Our plan was a three-year plan,” Dakuitoga stated, emphasizing the long-term vision aimed at elevating some players to higher echelons, such as the Under-20 squad or even making it to the Drua Academy.
The coach commended the young squad’s tenacity and fighting spirit, attributing part of their success to the unwavering support from their families and the Nasinu Rugby community. “First of all, I want to thank the boys for the effort well done for today’s game,” Dakuitoga acknowledged, extending his gratitude towards supporters and families for their continued encouragement throughout the season.
This victory is a significant morale booster, lifting Nasinu U20 from the bottom of the table and fortifying their resolve as they aim for long-term objectives. The victory mirrors successes seen in other Nasinu teams, such as the Nasinu Secondary School Old Boys and the women’s rugby team, highlighting a notable trend in youth development and sporting excellence within the Nasinu rugby community.
The path laid out by Dakuitoga and his young team reflects a broader commitment to nurturing talent and building resilience through strategic planning and community support. As these young athletes continue to develop their skills and experience, there is increasing anticipation surrounding their potential to make their mark in higher levels of competition in the future.
This success story not only brings hope and optimism to the Nasinu Rugby community but also inspires other young athletes and teams striving for greatness with the promise of what determination and comprehensive planning can achieve on the field.
