Nasinu Inmates Graduate From Fiji’s Youth Empowerment Program

The Ministry of Youth and Sports, in collaboration with the Fiji Corrections Service, successfully concluded the “Seeds of Success” youth empowerment program at the Nasinu Correction Facility this week. This initiative saw the graduation of 33 inmates who had undergone training and received certificates from the Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru.

The program focused on essential practical life and professional development skills, including CV writing, job application techniques, financial literacy, business planning, budgeting, and sexual reproductive health awareness. Minister Saukuru emphasized the significance of equipping these young individuals with vital knowledge and skills, crucial for their reintegration into society and their ability to contribute positively.

During his address, Minister Saukuru expressed confidence that the skills acquired through this training would act as a strong foundation for the inmates as they embark on their journeys toward brighter futures. “I am confident that the skills and knowledge gained will serve as a launchpad for these young men,” he stated, highlighting the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment across Fiji.

This program aligns closely with the government’s broader efforts to provide rehabilitation and upskilling for young inmates, reflecting the initiatives introduced under a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Youth and the Fiji Corrections Service. The two entities aim to foster and support youth through various means, including rehabilitation programs tailored for those within correctional facilities.

Such initiatives are part of a larger strategy to address the challenges faced by vulnerable youth, particularly those who have previously encountered criminal justice issues. The Ministry’s commitment to these programs underscores the belief in providing second chances and the transformative power of education and skill development.

As the Ministry looks forward to continuing its support for youth empowerment projects, this event at the Nasinu Correction Facility represents a hopeful stride towards building a more inclusive society where young individuals can reclaim their future and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
