The VESIDA One volleyball team showcased their prowess in the opening match of the Tribal Risk Nasinu Grassroots Volleyball tournament by securing a decisive victory against Easternville. The match concluded with a score of 25-20, highlighting VESIDA’s dominant performance throughout the game.
This tournament forms part of a broader initiative led by the Nasinu Volleyball Association, in cooperation with the Fiji Sports Council, to launch a month-long Grassroots Development Program. The program is designed to provide local clubs with access to premier facilities and the opportunity for high-intensity competition, fostering the growth of volleyball talent in the region.
Team captain Watisoni Bukalidi expressed the team’s readiness and determination to excel in the tournament. He noted that despite the formidable challenge from their opponents, VESIDA remained resolute, pushing through to secure their win. “We had been preparing well for this competition, the boys know what is at stake; we are aiming to win this competition,” he stated.
Bukalidi acknowledged the strengths displayed by Easternville, particularly in the third set, but emphasized the resilience of his team. He also expressed gratitude to the Nasinu Volleyball Association for providing the opportunity to participate in the Grassroots competition, recognizing the abundance of talent present.
Moreover, Bukalidi pointed out the significance of sports in fostering positive activities for youth amidst societal challenges, underscoring how initiatives like the Grassroots Development Program can play a crucial role in nurturing talent and steering young individuals toward constructive engagement. Such efforts not only support athletic development but also contribute to building stronger communities through sport.
