A bus driver in Makoi, Nasinu, has voiced his concerns about the police response following a violent confrontation with a group of youths. Jeremaia Fuakilau reported that the incident occurred during his morning shift when he was attacked by a group of approximately 10 to 15 youths who boarded his bus without paying. Fuakilau described the assailants as appearing intoxicated and aggressive when he refused their demand to divert his route to a liquor store.
During the altercation, Fuakilau claimed the youths swore at him, pulled on the steering wheel, and physically assaulted him, even striking him with a rod. In an attempt to escape the violence, he drove the bus to the nearby Tuirara Police Station. However, Fuakilau alleged that upon his arrival, he found one officer asleep and another who seemed unaware of the situation unfolding outside. While an officer eventually responded, by the time assistance arrived, the youths had fled.
Fuakilau sustained injuries from the attack and was advised to seek medical treatment before filing a police report. After submitting his medical documents at the Nasinu Police Station, he stated he had not yet heard back from them, leaving him feeling uneasy and unsettled about returning to work.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that the acting director of Operations has launched an investigation into the claims against the police officer who was reportedly unresponsive during the crisis.
