NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Boring Company has announced an ambitious project to create an underground transit system in Nashville, connecting downtown and the convention center to Nashville International Airport in approximately eight minutes. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee introduced the project known as the Music City Loop, which aims to be fully funded by private investments, ensuring that no taxpayer money will be needed.

Steve Davis, President of The Boring Company, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “The Boring Company is excited to bring our world-class tunneling and transportation capabilities to Tennessee.”

With this announcement, the company will initiate a public process that includes evaluating potential routes and engaging community stakeholders to finalize plans for the first phase, covering 10 miles. Construction is slated to begin immediately after obtaining the necessary approvals, with the first segment anticipated to be operational by fall 2026.

Importantly, the Loop system will be constructed within underground tunnels under state-owned roadways. It is designed to alleviate traffic congestion further by removing thousands of vehicles from surface streets each day. Additionally, the Music City Loop will feature an all-electric, zero-emissions transit system that adheres to or surpasses National Fire Protection Association standards.

This project signifies a move towards more sustainable urban transportation solutions in Nashville, promising a significant reduction in traffic as well as advancements in public transit technology well into the next decade. The prospects of the Music City Loop contribute to a vision of an efficient and environmentally friendly transportation network for residents and visitors alike.
