Starting the week of November 11, Naperville will initiate lighting enhancements at the Van Buren parking deck located at 43 W. Van Buren Ave. This project is part of the city’s ongoing downtown parking deck maintenance efforts. Weather conditions and unforeseen issues permitting, the work is anticipated to be completed by the end of December, reopening all parking spaces for public use.
The city has contracted Rag’s Electric to replace existing ceiling, stair, and vestibule lighting with new energy-efficient LED fixtures throughout the parking structure. In addition, the emergency call boxes will also be upgraded. The new LED lighting will consume significantly less energy than the current fixtures while providing improved visibility and safety for users of the facility. The projected duration of the work is approximately six weeks, and upon completion, the parking deck will be brighter and safer for everyone.
Construction teams will focus on one level of the deck at a time, which means temporary parking restrictions will be enforced in areas where work is being conducted. These parking spaces will be reopened as soon as the work is finished. Motorists are advised to follow traffic devices directing them around construction zones.
Work will take place from Monday to Friday, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. The city aims to maintain parking availability over weekends whenever possible. Visitors are encouraged to pay attention to detour and closure signs and to exercise caution while navigating the parking deck. It’s essential to note that overnight parking is not permitted in the Van Buren parking deck on Sundays.
For updates regarding this project, residents can visit the city’s official website dedicated to the Van Buren deck. Additional information on downtown parking facilities is also available on the city’s website. This lighting upgrade not only demonstrates Naperville’s commitment to improving infrastructure but also enhances the overall safety and user experience in its downtown areas. Such initiatives reflect a positive step towards modernizing public amenities while promoting energy efficiency.
