Nancy Meyers, the renowned filmmaker celebrated for her distinctive brand of glossy, aspirational comedies, is making a triumphant return. The director will write and direct a new untitled comedy for Warner Bros., slated for release on Christmas Day 2027. This film is set to feature an impressive ensemble cast, including Penélope Cruz, Kieran Culkin, Jude Law, Emma Mackey, and Owen Wilson.
While details surrounding the film’s storyline remain confidential, it has been confirmed that this project is a reimagining of “Paris Paramount,” a script that Meyers initially developed at Netflix in the spring of 2023. Meyers herself has previously described the film as revolving around a group of individuals involved in filmmaking, exploring the “magic and mystery” inherent in the creative process.
Complications arose at Netflix when the film’s budget escalated to $150 million. The streaming service was unable to accommodate Meyers’ financial requirements, leading to negotiations breaking down. Unlike traditional studio films, the streaming model often includes different financial structures for top-tier talent, which contributed to the budgetary concerns. Initially attached to the film was actress Scarlett Johansson, who has since shifted her focus to Mike Flanagan’s “The Exorcist” at Universal, but will still work with Warner Bros. on the upcoming “The Batman II.”
After negotiating a revised budget, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group co-heads Pam Abdy and Mike DeLuca were able to secure the project, keen to share Meyers’ signature style with her audience once again. Meyers will also produce the film alongside Ilona Herzberg, with Diana Pokorny serving as executive producer.
Meyers boasts an impressive filmography, with box office revenues exceeding $1 billion through beloved movies such as “What Women Want,” “Something’s Gotta Give,” “The Holiday,” and “It’s Complicated.” Notably, she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay in 1981 for “Private Benjamin,” which helped launch Goldie Hawn’s career. Additionally, a remake of her classic comedy “Baby Boom” is currently in development at Amazon MGM, showcasing the enduring appeal of her work.
With such a stellar cast and the unmistakable touch of Meyers, anticipation is building for this latest project, promising to deliver the heartfelt and glamorous storytelling her fans adore.
