Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) is escalating her defense following pushback from fellow Republicans in South Carolina regarding allegations of her inappropriate behavior at Charleston International Airport. On Wednesday, Mace threatened “severe legal action” against American Airlines and the airport after an incident report surfaced, claiming she had engaged in a heated confrontation with security officers.
In a post on X, Mace announced her intent to sue for defamation, labeling the report as “falsified” and revealing that she has obtained legal representation. The report, filed by a member of the Charleston County Aviation Authority, detailed an encounter last Thursday, where police officers were scheduled to assist Mace at the ticketing area. Although Mace was reportedly running late, she entered through another door and was met by officers who described her as “very irate.” The report indicated that she began to loudly curse and make derogatory remarks toward airport security, specifically stating they were “f—ing incompetent.”
Mace’s remarks included references to her status as a U.S. Representative, declaring that she would never be treated this way if it were someone like Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.). Scott responded on Facebook, maintaining that his experiences with the airport’s staff have always been positive and emphasizing the professionalism of the police and TSA agents.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) echoed Scott’s sentiments, expressing agreement over the airport personnel’s conduct and sharing his own favorable interactions. Mace has since retaliated against her colleagues, taking to X to express her frustration and to assert that “REAL MEN PROTECT WOMEN,” questioning their motives for criticizing her.
Since the incident was reported, Mace has actively posted on social media, exceeding 100 posts addressing the situation, while reiterating her grievances against the officers involved. She has also called for the resignation of Charleston Airport CEO Elliot Summey, highlighting her intention to pursue legal action.
This incident has stirred significant attention within the political community, particularly as Mace is in the midst of a gubernatorial campaign. The discourse surrounding her actions reflects broader themes of political accountability and public conduct among elected officials.
