Namosi Clinches Historic First Marama Cup, Ending Suva's Dominance

Namosi Crowned Subrails Marama Cup Champs, Ending Suva’s Streak

Namosi has clinched a historic victory, capturing their first-ever Subrails Marama Cup title with a thrilling 34–24 win against Suva at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. This triumph is particularly significant, as it breaks Suva’s previous stronghold in the competition following Namosi’s two prior defeats in finals.

From the outset, Namosi demonstrated their prowess, scoring six tries compared to Suva’s four. The match began with Suva taking the lead in the 8th minute thanks to Teresia Matea’s score. However, Namosi swiftly leveled the playing field with Rusila Nagasau finding the try line just a minute later, setting the stage for an intense contest.

As the first half progressed, Namosi surged ahead, establishing a commanding 24–14 lead by halftime. Key contributions came from Ivamere Rokowati and Josivini Naihamu, while Suva’s Livia Naidei managed her team’s second try in the 32nd minute, adding excitement to the match.

In the second half, Naidei made her mark again, scoring for Suva in the 50th minute. However, Namosi wasn’t to be outdone; Filomena Niulele and Miliana Duikoro each added to Namosi’s try tally, solidifying their lead. Although Varitema Adi scored a late try for Suva, it ultimately was not enough to change the outcome.

This championship win for Namosi symbolizes a remarkable turnaround after facing previous disappointments. It also highlights the growing prominence of women’s rugby in Fiji, showcasing the talent and resilience within the sport. The leadership of players like Rusila Nagasau not only drove the team to victory but also sets a powerful example for aspiring athletes in the region, igniting hopes for future success in women’s rugby competitions.
