A new chapter for community safety was marked today with the official inauguration of the Nakasi Police Station, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad. This advanced facility, which was completed in August 2023, serves as the headquarters for both the Nakasi Police and the Eastern Division.
The establishment of the Nakasi Police Station responds to the increasing demands for policing services in the area, which has undergone rapid urbanization, with a population exceeding 45,000 across Nakasi, Wainibuku, Davuilevu, and Koronivia. The station is strategically positioned to enhance law enforcement capabilities to manage the area’s significant commercial and residential growth, including new markets and various retail outlets.
During the inauguration, Professor Prasad emphasized the government’s commitment to fortifying the Fiji Police Force. He articulated the vision for continual investment in law enforcement, enhancing police capabilities, and solidifying community partnerships. “Public confidence in the police is crucial for peace, stability, and justice,” he asserted, highlighting improvements in police visibility and the importance of building public trust.
The Deputy Prime Minister revealed that plans are underway for additional police stations in Labasa, Valelevu, and Nalawa. There are also proposals for community police posts in areas like Bua, Kadavu, and Taveuni to further enhance local safety.
