The Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, officiated the 2025 Naitasiri Secondary School Cadet Passout Parade, where 284 students from Years 9, 10, and 11 proudly celebrated the successful completion of their cadet training program. The event, held at the school grounds, marked the third consecutive year that Naitasiri Secondary has participated in the School Cadet Training Programme, a tradition that significantly enhances students’ discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills.
During his address, Minister Radrodro commended the students for their dedication and resilience throughout the four-week training period. He stated, “Cadet training is a journey of transformation. It builds not just the body, but the mind and heart shaping students into confident, responsible leaders.” The Minister also recognized the collaborative effort of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, the Fiji Navy, and the school’s Cadet Committee, praising their guidance and support for the program.
Emphasizing the importance of parental involvement, he acknowledged teachers, parents, and guardians for their crucial roles in nurturing the academic and personal growth of the students. Moreover, he encouraged Year 12 and Year 13 students to remain focused as they prepare for external examinations, underlining that while support is vital, individual effort is key to success.
“Know what you want, plan for it, and take steps now,” he urged, reminding students that their choices today will define their future. He emphasized respect for parents and the importance of planning for further educational opportunities, such as those at institutions like FNU and USP, as well as through TSLS scholarships.
As he concluded the ceremony, the Minister encouraged the cadets to embody the values of respect, service, and perseverance, highlighting that “leadership begins with character.” The event brought together military instructors, teachers, parents, alumni, and community members, all celebrating the achievements of the cadets.
This year’s celebration at Naitasiri Secondary aligns with a broader trend across Fiji, where educational institutions are increasingly incorporating cadet training programs to instill discipline and leadership among students. Similar events at schools like Lomary Secondary School and Suva Grammar have emphasized personal development through cadet training, highlighting how these programs prepare students to take on future challenges in society. These initiatives not only enrich the students’ educational experiences but also contribute positively to their communities, fostering a generation of responsible and resilient leaders.
