The Naitasiri Netball Association is celebrating the valuable experience gained by its players during the 2025 Battle of the Netters competition held at the National Netball Centre in Laucala. The event featured six teams across various age groups, including under-15, under-18, three open women’s teams, and one open men’s team, marking a significant opportunity for player development.
Arieta Naisake, Secretary of the Naitasiri Netball Association, expressed her gratitude for the platform to showcase their talents against other associations in the country. “Our teams really had a great experience in the competition. For most of our players, this was their first big tournament, and we are incredibly grateful for the exposure,” Naisake said. The emphasis of the tournament was on gaining experience and enjoying the game rather than solely focusing on victories.
Though many players faced challenges due to late selections and financial constraints, support from sponsors proved crucial. This assistance allowed the team to acquire new jerseys and training gear. Additionally, collaboration with the Nasinu Town Council ensured access to training facilities at the Nasinu Multipurpose Court, which further enhanced their preparation.
Sponsorship was particularly vital for the association, given that many players are stay-at-home mothers, school leavers, or students. The Naitasiri Netball Association deeply appreciates the support it has received and is excited about continuing its participation in future tournaments.
The involvement of the community, along with the dedication displayed by players and supporters, reflects a positive trend observed across other netball associations in Fiji, such as the Nasinu Netball Association. These initiatives emphasize the importance of providing growth opportunities and fostering teamwork among young athletes. With the increasing interest in netball, the hope for nurturing future talent remains strong. This initiative serves to positively contribute to the growth of netball in Fiji, promoting character building and community cohesion through the sport.
